Batu Maung Waste Transfer Station

Set against the coastal edge beside the Penang Second Bridge, the Penang Island Waste Transfer Station redefines the architectural language of industrial infrastructure. Designed as an integrated solid waste management facility for the Penang Island City Council (MBPP), the project demonstrates how metal roofing and cladding can transform a highly functional building into a striking civic landmark.

DMI’s roofing and wall cladding profiles played a key role in achieving the project’s complex geometries, curved roofscapes, and seamless façade expression. Constructed using durable COLORBOND® steel, the system was selected for its ability to withstand the harsh marine environment while delivering long-term performance with minimal maintenance. The flexibility of DMI’s metal roofing and cladding solutions also enabled the creation of bold curves, flowing forms, and clean detailing that enhanced both functionality and architectural intent. The project reflects how innovative metal building systems can elevate industrial developments into enduring architectural landmarks.
